One of the bigger class action suits making news these days is that of popular over-the-counter heartburn/acid reflux drug Zantac. Recently, the pharmaceutical company behind the popular medication recalled four versions of its medication from shelves, citing the “carcinogenic qualities” the drugs contained. Namely, NDMA, an extremely harmful carcinogen that is known to cause multiple types of cancer, including liver, bladder and colon cancer, as well as other stomach and bladder issues, many of which are life threatening. Zantac is currently being investigated to pinpoint the cause (which likely took place at the manufacturing level) of this carcinogen being included in the medication.

To say that consumers have been alarmed is an understatement. Zantac is a very popular and affordable over-the-counter medication that millions of people take per year. It has been on the market for a very long time. People are understandably upset and concerned that a simple medicine they took for heartburn may have put their health at serious risk. So it’s no surprise that many people are jumping on the bandwagon and joining up with the class action suit against Sanofi, the company that manufactures Zantac.
Finding a Zantac lawyer to help assist with these class action lawsuits is pretty easy. There are a number of experienced medical malpractice/drug lawyers out there who know their stuff and have participated in many lawsuits just like this one. They can consult with you to determine if you have a case. If you have taken Zantac and have experienced any related health issues (or in some cases, even if you haven’t), you probably do have a case and may be entitled to a settlement.
Often people are reluctant to join class action suits if they feel they have not been personally affected enough, or worry that they are “piling on”, taking advantage of a lawsuit that is unfairly targeting a corporation. You may worry that you are getting money that you don’t really deserve, especially if you haven’t suffered or don’t feel directly affected. However, as any good lawyer will tell you, there are reasons that people join class action suits and medical malpractice suits that are far beyond any cash settlement or financial gain.
For starters, you don’t know what the future holds. You might be healthy and unaffected now, but what if down the line health problems develop? What if unseen compilations or difficulties arise from the use of such a drug? If you never experience any negative issues, that’s great, but what about others who have? Participating in a class action suit, adding your name to a long list of others, will force those responsible for such negligence to adhere to higher standards of practice. Forcing them to pay out for their mistake will ensure that others in future will have safer medications and less risk of injury or illness.
If you’re considering joining a class action suit against a company like Zantac or others, speak with a medical malpractice lawyer today, to see if you have a claim. They can guide you through the entire process and help you every step of the way, so you see justice.
