“Think what a better world it would be if we all, the whole world, had cookies and milk about three o’clock every afternoon and then lay down on our blankets for a nap.” ~ Barbara Jordan
Sounds perfect right? I agree. However, for those of you who have read my post 5 More Random Things About Me, you understand what I mean when I say I hate to cook. This includes baking. Baking even more so than cooking because I can actually cook really well if I have the time to do it. I can have all the time in the world and still can’t bake worth a darn unless it comes in a box or a roll….even then its iffy. That is why I can’t understand for the life of me why my brain did not stop my mouth before it told not one, but two teachers (6th grade for my son and daycare for my daughter), that this momma was totally willing and excited to bring cookies to the Halloween parties that the classes will be having in a couple of weeks. Not only did this crazy lady volunteer to bring roughly 6-8 dozen cookies (total between the two schools), she may have suggested that they would be homemade!! Who is this person? I mean not only can I not bake like Martha Stewart (hell, maybe not even Rod Stewart for that matter), I don’t know where I’m going to find the time…I’m basically going to have to take vacation from my “real job” the day before just to deliver on this obligation I have now committed myself too.
Why did I do this you may ask? Well, because I love my kids and I work a lot…and by a lot I mean even when I’m not at the office my obligatory 40 hours a week, I’m tethered to work via blackberry or laptop. So yes, I admit, I work much more than I’d like, but I really don’t have a choice. It’s a good job, a stable job, one I’ve been at for almost 13 years now and financially our household has to have both parents working full-time outside the house right now. Will it always be this way? I don’t know and I hope not, but for now that is how it has to be. However; I feel like I need to take every chance I have to be involved with my kiddos, their interests, their education, and yes their parties. And since I’m not exactly the PTA poster child, for some reason I thought that this was a good opportunity to be involved and apparently had some fantasy in my head of being a cookie baking goddess. I guess the good news is that I have two weeks to figure out my plan of attack and at the very least I can spend some quality time with my kiddos and the hubby when I enlist their help in this cookie baking fiasco. I’ll be sure to let you all know how it turns out! Next stop, Pinterest for some inspiration…

October 20, 2013 at 4:42 pmI’ve overextended on promises for the schools too. Truthfully, I’d go to the grocery store deli, pick up a few dozen cookies and tell the the teacher, ‘I didn’t have time to bake afterall, but I did bring the cookies!’ 🙂
Good luck w/whatever you do. 🙂
