DIY Whipped Body Butter

January 26, 2015 by Alison 12 Comments

I’ve seen this idea floating around here and there so I thought it was worth giving it a shot. (Yes, Pinterest people!). None of the recipes or directions were exactly the same, so being the lazy ass that I am I used a little of this and a little of that to come up with the easiest recipe I could.  What I’ve come up with is something that takes three ingredients and very little time and you have yourself some amazing homemade body butter. Keep it for yourself, dress it up and give it as a gift. It’s pretty inexpensive because a little bit of the ingredients actually yields quite a bit of body butter.

DIY Whipped Body Butter

Ingredients

1/2 c. Raw Shea Butter

1/2 c. Coconut Oil

20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil depending on how strong of a scent you want (I used lavender and tangerine)

Directions

This is easiest to do if you have a stand mixer, and use your stainless mixer bowl, but if you don’t have a stand mixer and just use a small pan to melt ingredients and mix in that works too.

Put your Shea butter & coconut oil in your stainless mixer bowl and let them melt, add essential oil of your choice and mix together. This only takes about 5 minutes to get everything melted down and mixed.

MeltOil

Then place the mixer bowl in the refrigerator until it begins to harden back up (this can actually take an hour or two so feel free to work on other things while you’re waiting,  just keep an eye on it).  It needs to be somewhat firm but not completely solid because now your’re going to whip with the mixer until it’s fluffy so you need to be able to get the beaters into it.

Mix ingredients

Whip for several minutes until the mixture looks white and fluffy then spoon into a container and you’ve got yourself some awesome, all natural, body butter. It should maintain it’s consistency if stored at room temperature, but if it gets a little “melty” during the warmer months or anything, just pop it in the fridge for a few minutes and it will firm right back up.
