It’s no secret that I love basically everything Disney. Okay, not just me…my whole family loves Disney. I mean who doesn’t? They bring so much cool stuff to the table and it doesn’t matter what age you are, what language you speak, or your family composition, you’ll laugh, cry, and have the time of your life just the same. Beside the characters, the movies and of course the theme parks, I also love that when I allow my child to purchase or play with a Disney movie or game, I can be confident that I’m allowing them access to media that’s appropriate for them. I don’t have to worry about what they’re viewing or learning and that’s worth a ton to a busy mama that just wants the best for her kiddos. With so much technology around, even for the real little guys and gals, knowing what you’re giving them is safe and educational is really important which is why I was stoked when I learned about the new Disney Imagicademy apps available for iPad.
Disney Imagicademy…it sounds cool, but what is it? Well, it’s a new learning brand designed for families with children ages 3 to 8 to inspire a natural love of learning and encourage kids to learn by creating, making and doing. It’s all based on that Disney magic, characters, and stories that we all know and love and that’s exactly what we are hoping to give our kids all the time right? The apps have a research-driven curriculum that was developed in conjunction with top academics and education experts so all that creative fun is educational too. The apps and products cover key subject matters that are important for early childhood development, including math, creative arts, science, reading and social and emotional skills. The perfect marriage right?
Mickey’s Magical Arts World
In Mickey’s Magical Arts World, children are invited to join Mickey and his friends in the most imaginative place around and create their own characters that can star in animated movies while they experiment with line, shapes and texture in Mickey’s Drawing Studio; Explore storytelling, improvisation, costume design, character development and role play with Donald; Consider concepts of rhythm, tempo, patterns and melodies with Mickey’s Musical Marching Band; Experiment with symmetry, balance and proportion as they design buildings with Minnie; and play with oodles of virtual arts and crafts with Goofy! So much fun stuff! (Oh, and don’t tell the kids, but it’s educational too!! Winning!)
Disney Imagicademy Parents
Now I personally think Disney Imagicademy Parents is super cool because it lets you connect with the Imagicademy community and gather information that can be used to engage with your child in meaningful ways. I’ve never seen anything like it before. It gives you a daily dose of what is possible and answers the question that we all struggle with sometimes, “What can I do today to help my child grow?” through daily articles and Disney Imagicademy-inspired activities designed to help spark creativity and encourage imaginative learning. The Parents app also serves as a portal into the children’s apps: Mickey’s Magical Math World and Mickey’s Magical Arts World, where parents can see their child’s latest creations, provide encouragement with a virtual “high five” and share their accomplishments with family and friends. I mean how cool is that right?
I love that these apps and activities are about more than just Disney, Mickey Mouse, or even learning and creating, but that they are based around community; because we all know it takes a village to raise a child. My daughter, well, as you can see she loves these games and I can hardly get her to put it away for the iPad to recharge. Seriously, the first day we downloaded everything, she actually got in trouble because she wouldn’t stop playing to eat or take a nap, or use the bathroom or anything! Now, several days later as I’m typing this, she’s sitting in the floor by me with her “ice pad” making more Disney magic! I’d say she approves!
I know you’re as excited about this as I am and you can’t wait to let your creativity shine so be sure you get your free downloads of Mickey’s Magical Arts World and Disney Imagicademy Parents available in the iTunes App store right now! There are in app purchases, to unlock all the games that are available, but as a person who hardly every “buys” apps because I’m frugal (hubby would probably say cheap), I will say these have already been totally worth every penny.
