What are the things you wish you had known before you became a parent? Not the typical how much does he or she eat, when do I start feeding cereal or regular milk, what temperature is too high, and common questions like that; but the real stuff. Things like is it normal to feel like I’m losing my mind, and how do I know if I’m making the right decisions. Well, I’m a mama of two and auntie to several more and here’s what I’ve learned so far that has helped me to survive this crazy parenting thing.
It’s okay to ask for help. Really, it doesn’t make you a crappy mom or dad; in fact, it will make you a better parent. Knowing what your limits are, and when it’s time ask for an assist will keep you sane and that’s important. We have years for the kids to drive us nutso so if you’re feeling overwhelmed, send out an SOS. I guarantee friends and family will think nothing of it and even welcome an invite to see that little munchkin. Also, when it comes to things like feeding (breast or bottle), bathing, sleeping, etc., don’t pay too much attention to what everyone else thinks is right. There is no wrong or right way most of the time, there’s just what works for your family and if baby is full, clean, warm, and happy, then more power to you mama. It doesn’t matter how you got there.
When possible buy in bulk, because yes, you will blow though that box of 200 diapers (literally) and 2500 wipes that you picked up at your local Sam’s Club™. Not only will this save you time, it will save numerous trips to the market and it will save you money in the long run.
While you’re picking up butt covers by the pallet, make sure that you also buy quality. I’ve tried just about every brand on the market in an attempt to save a few bucks, but honey let me tell you, a few pennies is not worth the mess that results from inadequate diapers. This is one place you don’t want to skimp no matter how tempting it is. For those wiggly little angels, you want something snug but comfortable and ready to take on the enemy; you want Huggies Little Snugglers.
At a time when you don’t know which way is up, diapering with Huggies Little Snugglers is a choice that you can be confident in. Little Snugglers protect that sensitive baby skin with a GentleAbsorb liner and wetness indicator so you know when baby is ready for a change. The new GentleAbsorb Liner also has tiny pillows that provide a cushiony layer of protection between your baby’s skin and draws runny mess away. The Leak Lock design offers up to 12 hours of protection in case you’ve got an exceptionally good sleeper and they are shaped to fit new babies with umbilical cord cut-out that protects belly buttons as they heal.
Basically this whole parenting thing is a crapshoot. You won’t know if you done an amazing job or totally bombed the whole thing for 20 or 30 years. There won’t always be a right or wrong answer to your questions. More often than not, it’s all a guessing game and you hope that you’ve made mostly right decisions for your precious babies along the way. Chances are that if those decisions were made with love and the best interest of your child and family in mind, you’re doing fine so just relax and enjoy the precious moments before they’re gone.
