A new year means changes of all kinds. New ideas, new goals, and yes even new insurance premiums and rules. Sorry to be a downer, but this is stuff that y’all need to know to keep yourselves and your families happy and healthy. Call me weird but since I’ve been an insurance broker for 15 year now, it’s a topic that’s near and dear to my heart. It’s one of those things that you hate paying for (yes, even I cringe when paying monthly premiums), and you question why even have it, that is until you need it and then you can’t imagine being without it. Another thing that people don’t always think about? Oral health…just think about how important someone’s smile is; and that’s why today we’re talking dental insurance. Specifically MetLife TRICARE Dental.
It’s almost February already (I know I can’t believe it either), so we need to get down to the details so that you’re in the know when these changes start happening. As with everything in life, the MetLife TRICARE Dental program is experiencing some changes beginning February 1, 2015. Premiums for the program vary based upon the the sponsor’s military status and type of enrollment (sponsor only, single enrollment, family enrollment, or sponsor and family). Also, the coverage effective date will be the first day of the month following receipt of payment IF payment is received by the 20th of the month. Also, don’t forget that your sponsor must submit their first monthly payment upon enrollment — that’s the nice way of saying you won’t be billed so expect to pay up front so that coverage is not delayed. It’s super easy to do though because you can enroll via phone or online with a credit card or through the mail if you prefer to pay with a check or money order.
Important Stuff
All that payment info is great and you’re ready to get your life right and get your family enrolled, but wait!! Where do I sign up? No worries I have all the pertinent details right here – there are four easy ways to enroll:
- Online visit www.tricare.mil/bwe
- Call 1-855-638-8371 CONUS, 1-855-638-8372 OCONUS, or 1-855-638-8373 TDD/TTY
- Fax a completed Enrollment Authorization document (found at www.tricare.mil/tdp) to 1-855-763-1337
- Mail a completed Enrollment Authorization document to MetLife TRICARE Dental Program, PO Box 14185, Lexington, KY 40512
Now that’s not too hard right? Now, if you’re not already enrolled and you are eligible, get enrolled. Your health and your families health is worth it, and yes, that means oral health too. If you’re already enrolled you get a gold star, but be sure that you take a few minutes to review your coverage and premiums for any changes. Make note of changes and ask any questions you may have now so there are no surprises down the road. Also, to stay on top of any new information from MetLife TRICARE Dental, be sure to check our their Facebook page – you know social media, it’s the fastest way to get information these days!

January 28, 2016 at 4:40 pmThis sounds good. I really need to get to the dentist, I have the dental on my insurance but I’m so bad about going that I let it all go to waste last year! Plus I have terrible teeth-like genetically terrible. I get cavities no matter what I do, so not going is BAD.

January 28, 2016 at 7:19 pmI can’t stress enough the importance of good dental insurance. Also finding a good dentist, but that’s a whole different story, especially if you’re like me (until few years ago) and you’re scared of dentists 😉 Good to see bloggers sharing posts about the important stuff.

January 28, 2016 at 8:24 pmI totally agree! Good insurance is such a great thing, and even for those with not so great insurance, a good dentist can make that not as big of a deal. Even great insurance doesn’t make a bad dentist any better!

January 29, 2016 at 11:33 amThank you for this update on what is new with Tricare. Dental care is so important, and having great dental insurance and finding a great dentist are just as important! I have an awesome dentist that I have been seeing for about 20+ years. I even travel an hour to see him now that I moved across the state.

January 29, 2016 at 7:26 pmI plan on going to the dentist soon. My 3 year old will see a dentist for the first time soon. This looks like a great plan, but our insurance is provided by my husband’s work and we have no control over it. Nothing feels better than a healthy mouth!

January 31, 2016 at 6:44 pmWe don’t have metlife and oral care plans are not that popular too. But reading about blog post, I realized we also should include oral care plans to our health insurance. Thanks so much for sharing!
