Fun fact about me: I love breads and dipping sauces. Bread is absolutely one of my weakness when it comes to some of the diet plans out there…it’s a problem. But back to the dipping sauces, part of the allure is some of the decorative containers the oils and vinegar’s come in. I tend to switch out my kitchen decor, at least some of the accent pieces with the seasons. This is partly as a way to change things up so it doesn’t get boring, and partly as a way to justify my collection of containers, dispensers and decor. Some say hoard…I say collect. I also love crafts, especially with up-cycling projects. Taking something that could easily be garbage and making it useful, pretty, or fun again really motivates a lot of my crafting like this bottle craft that I did for Valentine’s Day a few weeks ago.
Know what else I love? Diet Coke. I love to pop one open and sip on it as I’m working or crafting. An ice cold one is just crisp and refreshing and sometimes I need that to keep me going. Now imagine how elated I was to find out these new, uniquely packaged bottles of Diet Coke were being released. This had up-cycle written all over it because not only are these bottles gorgeous, no two are exactly alike so you have a truly unique item to work with. Of course I ran to Fred Meyer the first chance I got and picked up several bottles and a few of the mini cans because well, they were terribly cute!
I wasn’t 100% sure at first what I wanted to do with the bottles, but I finally decided that I’d turn them in to Oil and Vinegar dispensers (remember the bread and dipping sauces addiction – perfect fit!). What I love about this project is that it’s super easy, you don’t have to be Martha Stewart to successfully complete it, and not only will these bottles add a pop of color to your own kitchen just in time for Spring, they make great, one of a kind gifts (housewarming maybe?).
Just look how pretty these are! Here’s how I turned two of these empty Diet Coke bottles into gorgeous oil and vinegar dispensers that are uniquely mine:
Step One: Pop open and enjoy a delicious Diet Coke. This step is super important to help get you motivated to complete the rest of the project.
Step Two: Wash your bottles out with soap and water and turn upside down to dry.
Step Three: Fill one bottle with olive oil (or whatever your favorite dipping or cooking oil is) and fill second with Vinegar of choice (I usually go with Balsamic)
Step Four: Insert vented pourer into top of each bottle (these can be picked up at just about any store with a kitchen section – just look for vented pourer replacements)
Step Five: Grab some bread and enjoy!
