Thank you to SheSpeaks and POWERADE for sponsoring this post.
Growing up, I had a cousin who was so good at playing soccer. She loved the game and never let anyone stop her. It was invigorating to watch her. I would go to her games and just watch in awe as she would turn into this amazing machine during the game. Watching her on the field showed me that even though she was just a kid, she could accomplish anything. In fact, it gave me drive to want to continue and be successful.
My son has that same passion for Karate. Ever since his first class over three years ago he’s been driven, and he’s been successful, and watching him grow as a person and as an athlete has been an amazing experience not only for him, but for me as his mother, and other friends and family as well.
Supporting an athlete is so important. I saw my family support my cousin by going to her games and cheering them on. Of course, her team didn’t win every game, but the family supported her along the way. I could see her eyes light up when she saw one of us at her games. Supporting her as a successful athlete was awesome. I loved watching her grow and succeed as the soccer player she was. And with my son, it’s the same. Tournament day is a family event and a reason for celebration. Regardless of if we place in every event that day or not, we’ve all worked hard to get him there and he’s learned a littl bit more about his strengths and areas that need improvement so he can come back even stroger the next time around.
I agree 100% with the “Just a Kid” campaign from POWERADE. No matter who you are or where you come from, there is potential in every single person in this world. Think about it, no matter who you are, what you have been successful at, at the end of the day, we are all “just a kid” from somewhere.
POWERADE believes that with the right motivation, an athlete can realize their own potential. Of course, it helps to have support from friends and family as well. I have to agree with POWERADE, watching my cousin play soccer, and my son as he becomes more and more disciplined in the Martial Arts, the potential is there and the more they they realize it, the more successful they are!
