Self-care. It’s something I don’t do enough of. I try…I get my nails done, sometimes. I get my hair done, like twice a year. Obviously being a mom, wife, employee, and business owner, there’s very little time for me to be selfish and think about myself. As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I’m learning that I have to be a little selfish sometimes, because if I don’t take care of me, I can’t take care of all of those other things I just rattled off. Burnout is real, and I’m learning that the only way to avoid it is to take a little time to do something that’s just for me. In turn, everyone and everything else benefits.
For me, part of the self-care routine that I’m trying to do daily is skin care. Now I never thought acne was something that I’d really talk about on my blog, but it’s real, and I know I’m not the only one suffering. Acne is the pits. Growing up you think it’s one of the perks of being grown, not having to deal with acne…but for some it’s a lifelong battle and you know what? That’s okay. I didn’t actually have a lot of acne issues until after my second child, but ever since then I feel like every teenage boy on earth. Although some days are worse than others, my acne is pretty much a constant – the struggle is real! So as part of my self-care routine, I’m including NEW Differin® Gel now available at Target to help in this area!
Differin® Gel is the first and only prescription strength retinoid now available over-the-counter for clearing and preventing acne. It’s the newest advancement and ingredient in the OTC acne category in over 30 years! It works deep in the pores to clear breakouts. I know that clearing acne before it begins and restoring my skin’s texture and tone by applying a thin layer all over my face, once a day, every day will make me feel better and you know what? I’m worth it. Please use caution when using Differin® Gel with more than one acne treatment or glycolic acid product because this could lead to irritation.
You know what else I like to do when I just need to relax and take care of me? A hot, soothing bath. I’m a 10-minute shower and out of the house girl most days, so a long soak in the tub is a gift. To make it just a little more luxurious, I like to toss in one of my Easy DIY Bath Bombs. I mean after conquering the world and acne, a relaxing bath is an important part of any complete skin and self-care routine! If you think this is something you’d like to partake in, let me show you how!
Easy DIY Bath Bombs
Ingredients
1 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Corn Starch
1/2 cup Epsom Salt (I like the one with Lavender)
1/4 cup Citric Acid
1/2 cup Coconut Oil
1/4 cup water
2 tsp. essential oil (again I used Lavender, I’m kind of a fan, but you do you)
4-6 drops food coloring (optional)
Himalayan Rock Salt (optional)
Other Supplies
2 Bowls (for mixing ingredients)
Mold (I used mini muffin tins)
Whisk
Directions
If you choose to use it, distribute Himalayan Rock salts in the wells of your muffin tins then combine all remaining dry ingredients in one bowl. Combine all wet ingredients in another bowl. If using food coloring, add that and mix into the wet ingredients.
Slowly stir contents in bowl of wet ingredients into bowl with dry ingredients using whisk to stir until mixed thoroughly.
When mixture is combined into a consistency that will stick together into clumps press firmly into your molds until filled.
Remove any excess from sides. Let mixture dry in mold overnight.
Once dry, turn mold upside down on paper towels and gently tap the mold – dried bath bombs should easily come out when mold is lifted (I have the best luck with metal molds – the silicone molds can be a bit trickier so I tend to stay away from those for this particular use.)
Drop into your next relaxing bath or wrap in cellophane and give as gifts. Makes 12-15 bombs depending on mold size.
Now that you’re relaxed and refreshed, let’s chat. What’s your biggest self-care challenge? Are skincare problems or my nemesis, acne, something that you’ve experienced? Would Differin® Gel at Target be something that could change your daily struggle? Let me know in the comments below, and thanks for reading!!
