Thank you to everyone who contributed to this collaborative post!
We’re in the home stretch people. Only a few more days until the jolly fat man breaks into all of our homes and leaves fun and memories for Christmas Day. If you still need to procure some gifts, there is still some super cool stuff out there and I though I’d share some of my current faves. It’s cool…you can thank me later…
What’s on my holiday gifting list this year? So much good stuff!
Drones, they’re all the rage. Everyone has one or wants one, including my kiddos. If you like play to also be educational like I do, then you’re going to want to pick up on of these create & fly your own drone kits by Circuit Scribe! This all-inclusive kit gives teens the ability to draw the “wires” to the motors with conductive silver ink and use the included cardboard arms to make something that actually flys. The Circuit Scribe Pen is filled with non-toxic conductive silver, which is used to draw traces from the motors to the hub, allowing users to quickly build and fly their own drone with a smart phone (Android & Apple). I don’t know about you, but I think this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while. Technology has me like whoa! Connect your device’s WiFi to the CSDrone Network, open the CSPilot App on your device, select the “phone tilt control” and tap the button with one arrow pointing up and one arrow pointing down to take off and land. Boom, you’ve built and flown your own drone. I don’t see how anyone could go wrong gifting this.
Now books…those are always a great gift. If you like humor, then you’ll want to check out Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise! If you have already read David Ezra Stein’s Caldecott Honor–winning Interrupting Chicken, you’ll be thrilled to know that the little red chicken is back — and as endearingly silly as ever! It’s homework time for the little red chicken, who has just learned about something every good story should have: an elephant of surprise. Or could it be an element of surprise? Either way, you’ll want to find out what happens to Papa and the little red chicken in this great read! Right now you can get 25% off all books using code CANDLEWICK here.
Now since this is a no judgement zone, it won’t be weird when I say one of things I’m most excited about is this PEZ The Grinch collectors tin and Sour Green Apple PEZ…I love all the sour things!! I don’t know if you know, but PEZ was first marketed in 1927 as a compressed peppermint by Eduard Haas III in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Haas sought an alternative to smoking and thus PEZ was born. Now I don’t know that it helped anyone with smoking cessation, but PEZ is an iconic candy in it’s own rite and I don’t know any kid that doesn’t want a PEZ dispenser at the checkout line in every store in America. It wasn’t until 1957 that the first dispenser heads were added to the iconic dispenser. From there the rest is history! PEZ continues to offer classic favorites to the latest new licenses. PEZ is the iconic candy with character! The Grinch PEZ gift tin is shaped in the iconic silhouette of The Grinch himself. Each gift tin includes four new PEZ dispensers: The Grinch, Cindy Lou, Fred and Max. A fittingly sour Green Apple PEZ six pack is included with each gift set. See the movie, gift the candy – winning!!!
My Clothespin Zoo; this and other KLUTZ Jr. Book and craft kites are something I have just discovered, but I think they’re super cute, and way cool for our mini DIY and crafters. Your little one can build fine motor skills and bring the entire zoo home in one simple activity kit! Your youngest crafters will love creating ten adorable animals from colorful clothespins. and for those that are a bit older, you may want to try My Simple Sewing – It’s “sew” simple learn the basics of sewing, build dexterity and of course to make your own food friends! (Punny right?) Using pre-cut and pre- punched felt and a plastic needle safe for little hands, kids will make three projects: a cookie keychain, a pizza pouch, and a cupcake plushie.
Now I’m a bit of a Funko fan girl, so Funko’s 5 star line features Albus Dumbldore, with 3 points of articulation for a perfectly posable wizard is pretty awesome. He comes in in an artful window-box package with Fawkes the Phoenix so you can build your own Harry Potter narrative. HP fans everywhere will love adding this to their collection. Of course no collection is complete without Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Illustrated Edition. This is the third book in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and is now illustrated in glorious, full color by award-winning artist Jim Kay! A gorgeous and gift-worthy volume your kids (and YOU!) will treasure. Take 10% off your order sitewide by using code Babbleboxx through Jan. 2, 2019. Excludes video games, video game consoles, and select turntables.
Of course, there are going to be members of your family or particular friends who are particularly difficult to buy for. The key to nailing these presents is to think outside of the box a little. Take some time to think through their personal interests and tastes. The perfect gift for them could be anything – a spa experience, a makeup palette, avo cigars, some comfortable socks, a box of chocolates… the list of potential options just goes on and on! What’s important is that you put some thought into your final gift. This shows time, care, thought and effort, and emphasize the sentiments that lie behind gift giving in the first place!
