It might seem like you’ve got quite a bit of time left, but the holiday season is upon us and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here. (Despite what the retail marketplace says, Christmas is still after Thanksgiving.) When you are planning a Thanksgiving dinner for your family, there are so many small details to remember and you need to get them all right if you want it to be perfect. The key is to start planning early, so you should be thinking about it already and making some of the initial preparations. If you are in the planning stages for your family Thanksgiving celebrations, here are a few tips to help make it perfect.
Pick The Turkey Early
You could just go into the supermarket and pick any old turkey, but the later you leave it, the harder it will be to find a good one. You don’t want to be rushing around last minute, struggling to find anywhere that has one left, so make sure that you pick one out and order it early. If you are not sure what to look for when choosing a turkey, you can read this great guide for some handy tips.
Plan Your Menu
The turkey will be the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving dinner but you’ll need to make all of the extras as well. If you don’t plan out your menu properly, you will end up forgetting important ingredients and it will be very chaotic when you are trying to cook on the day. You need to decide on the sides that you are going to have, your dessert, and maybe some nice fall cookies or biscuits to have later on. As well as deciding what you are going to have, you should also make up a schedule so you can plan out exactly how you are going to cook everything. There is a lot of food to prepare and if you don’t have a clear plan, you won’t be able to manage it all properly.
Get Some Decorations
You can make the day extra special if you get some decorations in the house. There’s no need to go overboard because you may already have some decorations up, but you should get a few Thanksgiving specific things to put around the house. You could also get some Thanksgiving shirts printed up. These little touches will help to make your day even more special and memorable.
Prep The Day Before
You make life a lot easier for yourself if you can get a lot of the prep work done the day before. That way, you don’t have to do all of the cooking in one single day. Get all of your shopping out of the way a few days early and then you can start chopping your vegetables, defrosting your turkey, and even cook some of the dishes beforehand. Then you can just reheat things on the day, which makes things a lot more manageable.
As long as you follow these tips, you can make sure that everything goes to plan and you have the perfect family Thanksgiving. What do you do to make sure our holiday goes smoothly? Let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading!
