Kick That Bad Habit To The Curb

January 2, 2020 by Alison Leave a Comment

We all have bad habits. These are things that we already recognize as a negative part of our lives. But we may not yet have taken any necessary steps to correct them. Why is this? Well, first, bad habits are rather difficult to break.

A habit isn’t part of conscious thought. Instead, it’s a process which is embedded in our brain. It traps us into repeating it again, and again, and again. It’s like brushing your teeth or even your full morning routine. You can sleepwalk through this because you have completed it countless times before, probably at roughly the same time each morning. Habits form quickly too and it’s possible that if you repeat it regularly enough, a habit can become a main part of your life after just two months.

This is just one of the reasons why bad habits are bad news and why we don’t instinctively cut them out. They can also be crutches. Many habits are a process that we rely on to deal with a difficult situation. For instance, people often bite their nails when they feel anxious and it provides some form of comfort. Similarly, you might find that you are addicted and you can get addicted to all types of substances. For instance, sugar addiction can be particularly challenging because the food will taste plain without it.

So, now we know the challenges of breaking the bad habit, let’s explore how to tackle this issue the right way. There are a few options that are worth considering here.

The Alternative

One of the best ways to break a bad habit is to replace it with something else. For instance, you might be prone to cracking your knuckles. This is a fairly harmless bad habit, but there is little research that suggests the process of doing this could link to issues like arthritis later in life.

One of the best ways to beat this bad habit is to find another way to occupy your hands. Fidget spinners are a great option and they are easy for anyone to use. They are particularly useful for those who are constantly distracted or find that they need to keep their hands occupied through the day. This could be useful as an alternative to other bad habits as well.

Or, you might be a smoker. If that’s the case, then you might want to consider vaping. Vape kits available from Smok are easy to use and there is no research to suggest that vaping is bad for your health. As such, it can be considered a clean bad habit and many people use it as a way to quit smoking for good.

Failing this, you might want to try exercise. By working out, you will be able to deal with the stress that you usually cope with through a bad habit. You can also get the health benefits of working out with some research suggesting it could even keep you younger for longer.

The Helpful Friend

If you want to beat a bad habit, then one of the best ways is to find someone who is trying to do the same. Hopefully, they will have the same bad habit as you and they will have started their journey to remove it from their life at roughly the same time. By doing this, you will be able to lean on one another and push each other to continue on this path.

Depending on the habit that you are trying to break, you might fear a certain level of judgement from those in your life. By finding someone with a similar bad habit, you won’t have to worry about this type of issue at all. You can get the support you need without fear of judgement.

Meditation

Finally, you might want to consider meditating as a way to beat a bad habit. Research shows that meditation can be useful for a wide range of different processes including breaking habits.

By meditating, you will be able to ensure that you are able to effectively eliminate the habit and concentrate on the things that matter in your life. As well as being good for your mind, meditation has also been proven to have a positive impact on your body as well. As such, you will be getting a vast range of benefits from this process.

We hope this helps you understand some of the best ways to beat a bad habit that could be negatively impacting your life. There’s no better time to start this journey than right now.
