Ways to Deal with Anxiety Better

January 28, 2020 by Alison Leave a Comment

Anxiety can strike anyone at any time, but some people have more problems with it than others. If you’re someone who’s prone to bouts of anxiety and you’re tired of not knowing what you should do about it, we’re going to discuss some of the things you can do to start dealing with it that little bit better.

There’s no silver bullet answer to anxiety, so if that’s what you’re looking for or expecting, you’re only going to be disappointed. Instead, you should focus on dealing with the problem better and looking for ways to respond to feelings of anxiety, while also preventing it where possible. Find out more about ways to do that below.

Find More Time to be Social

When you’re dealing with anxiety issues, it’s important not to fall into the trap of shutting yourself away and avoiding social situations. Being social is important for all of us and it can actually help to decrease anxiety and stress issues. If you can find people to be social with, even at times when you don’t really feel like being social, it’ll make a big difference and you’ll feel much better as a result of it, so give it a try.

Write Your Problems Down

Writing your problems down and really taking the time to get them out of your head and onto paper will help you to feel less trapped by what’s making you anxious. It’s often much easier to look at things clearly and to assess them in a sensible way when they’re written down on paper in front of you. You can then start to work through them rather than being completely overwhelmed and made to feel paralysed by them. Simply jot them down and go from there.

Don’t Rely on Caffeine

Caffeine actually exacerbates anxiety issues rather than making them better, so if you’ve been worrying about your anxiety problems and then using coffee to help you feel better, that’s something that needs to change. If you rely too heavily on caffeine and self-medicate with it, you’ll only make the situation worse and put yourself more on edge than ever before, and that’s clearly not what you want. It might seem like caffeine is helping you but it really isn’t.

Consider the Power of CBD Products

If you’ve never tried out CBD products before, you might want to look into it. These products are often overlooked because people are wary of the idea of self-medicating with cannabis, but that’s not really what CBD is about. It’s harmless and doesn’t contain the psychoactive properties of regular marijuana. Products such as CBD Powder are known to help with anxiety and mood related issues. If you’re having problems and you haven’t tried this solution before, you might want to see whether or not it does the job for you.

Use Exercise to Your Advantage

Another thing you can and should use to your advantage is exercise. When you get active and push yourself while out running or at the gym, it can make a real difference to your overall mental balance. It doesn’t have to be about hardcore exercise though. It can be just as helpful to go out walking or spend time in nature in other ways. Simply getting out there and being active, even if it’s just a little, makes a pretty big difference.

Scented Candles and Essential Oils

This might sound like a silly one, but these things really can make a difference when you’re dealing with anxiety and struggling to relax. Scented candles and essential oils will make you feel much more relaxed about things and put you at ease in ways that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. Look for the scents that you find most appealing and those that help you to feel relaxed.

Say No When You Need To

When things are getting too much, you should say no. Sometimes, people expect too much from you and you need to be able to say no when that’s the case. There’s nothing at all wrong with knocking back an invite to do more work. If you’ve planned to spend the day outdoors, for example, you should go ahead and do that and not give in to a request to do more work.

Don’t Fall Into Procrastination Loops

It’s easy to procrastinate when you have a lot to do. None of us like doing things we don’t enjoy, even if it’s necessary at times. You should make a concerted effort not to fall into a procrastination loop when you need to get things done. As you probably already know, this tends to just make your more anxious and on edge. It’s easy to do, but recognize the signs early and take action so that it doesn’t become a problem for you.

Practice Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness is something that a lot of people are doing nowadays and that’s no coincidence. It’s something that makes a real difference for so many people and the same could be true for you as well. Mindfulness is about being at ease and listening to your body and what you need. It’s about being mindful of the things that impact our mood in both positive and negative ways too. Think about what you can do to improve your approach to this going forward.

Dealing with anxiety can be difficult and many people struggle even more because they don’t know how to deal with the problems they face. With the strategies discussed above, you’ll be able to combat anxiety better than ever before. You’ll avoid stressful situation more often and know how to respond when they strike.
