Losing someone you love is a stressful and harrowing part of life. It is something we all go through eventually and it can truly be the hardest part of life. If you have recently lost someone you love, we want to help you remember them in a beautiful and meaningful way.

Whether the person you loved was buried in a cemetary or creamted and place in cremation urns made from wood or porcelain, there are other ways to ensure your loved one stays in your heart and mind forever. Here are some of the things you can do to pay tribute to a loved one and keep them close by.

Buy a piece of jewelry

One great way to remember a loved one is to buy a piece of jewellery that reminds you of them. It could be a necklace with a pendant and a photograph, or even an engraved ring with their birthstone inside. Being able to carry around your loved one all the time is a wonderful thing and a privilege.

Dedicate a bench

Many of us look to dedicate an object to a person we love, and a bench is a wonderful way to remember your loved one and also give something to the community. If your loved one had a favourite park or picnic spot, placing a bench here with an engraved plaque can be a beautiful reminder of them and what they loved when they were alive.

Create a teddy bear or a cushion

If you weren’t aware, there are companies out there who will take a piece of clothing from someone you loved and turn it into a pillow or a teddy bear. This is a beautiful idea if there is a piece of clothing that was your loved one’s favourite, and it means whenever you are feeling down or alone, you can cuddle this and feel connected to them once again.

Plant a tree

Giving back to nature is always a beautiful way to pay tribute to someone you love. It is important for you to consider planting a tree in memory of a loved one as a way to commemorate the ending of one life with the start of another. A fruit tree can be a wonderful idea and it will allow you and your family to enjoy fresh crumbles and other desserts every year while remembering the person you love.

Frame their favorite shirt

Another way to take a piece of clothing and turn it into a memory is to frame it. You can take a cherished shirt or dress from your loved one and have it framed. It will stand proudly in your home as a reminder of that person and the impact they had on your life.

Wear something of theirs

When a loved one dies, they will often leave behind a myriad of accessories and jewellery. If your family member has a watch or a necklace that they would often wear, a great way to remember them is to wear it yourself. Carrying around a piece of your loved one will ensure that you will never feel alone and you will always be connected to them in some way, no matter how small.

Name a star

Did you know that you can purchase a star online and name it yourself? Many people use a metaphor when a loved one dies of reaching the skies as a star and forever looking down on us. You can make this a reality by naming a star after someone you love. When you do this you’ll get a certificatre in the post as well as a photograph with the location of the star that can be framed. It will be a wonderful way to feel like the one you love is always there looking down on you and keeping you safe.

Name a rose

If your loved one enjoyed gardening, a great tribute to them would be to buy a rose from your local garden centre and name it after them. A rose is the ideal flower to signify love and it will become a prized part of your garden. Try to find a rose that blooms around the time of your loved one’s birthday each year as a beautiful reminder.

Turn ashes into jewelry

If you cremated your loved one, you can take some of the ashes and make it into a beautiful and unique piece of jewellery. It might be a little unconventional however the companies who create these works show only respect during the process and you will be able to carry a piece of your loved one with you forever.
