Making Your Home’s Stairs Safer

September 29, 2020 by Alison Leave a Comment

If you haven’t given much thought to the safety of the staircase in your home, it’s probably time that this changed. Making your stairs safer should be a top priority because there are so many problems that can arise and accidents that can happen if you don’t put safety first. Each year, more than a million people in the US injure themselves on a staircase.

People who are older and have other mobility issues are far more likely to have accidents when using stairs, which probably won’t come as much of a surprise. There are many reasons why people fall, and distractions certainly play a part. But the characteristics of the particular staircase can also play their part, with many people falling due to poorly designed stairs or slippery surfaces.

Before you start thinking about how you can make your staircase safer and avoid potential accidents and falls, you first need to gain a better understanding of how accidents happen and why. Everyone wants their home to be as safe as it possibly can be, and making your staircase safe should definitely be a part of that. Non-slip coatings and treads can definitely be part of the solution to this problem.

If you want to find out more about accidents on the staircase and how they come about, the infographic below, made by Amstep Products will give you all the information you need, so take a look.
