Beyond the Stretch: 4 Ways to Recover From Workouts

If you are well and truly on the way to achieving your dream body; or heck, just trying to get healthier, you may find that you are feeling quite sore. Workouts will take their toll on your body. This is why it’s so important to learn the fine art of recovery as well. It’s not just about ensuring that you go 110% of the gym. Rest is as important as exercise. But when we lead such busy lives, we need to know the best approaches to recovering effectively. Everybody’s different. But what are the best approaches to working on your workout recovery?

Hot and Cold

Many athletes use ice as a way to recover, but there’s a lot to be said for contrast showers. Using hot and cold can help you to recover your muscles. The cold will help flush out the lactic acid in your system, but also, using hot water can help the blood to flow to the muscles. It also feels fantastic. Using a contrast shower is about turning the water up as hot as you can bear it, staying under there for 30 to 60 seconds, and turning it to cold. It can be quite a shock to the system regardless of the way you turn it, but it is a fantastic way to help you recover.

CBD or Medical Marijuana

CBD has been shown to help speed up recovery from workouts, and medical marijuana is a natural way to de-stress. We have to remember that if we stress our bodies, we need to give it time to adapt and recover. There are a wide variety of medical marijuana dispensaries out there, such as 805 Beach Breaks, and you can become a member of 805 Beach Breaks to get medical marijuana quickly. But you have got to make sure that you use it properly. Some people have spoken of the impacts of using this on their recovery, but be sensible in how you use it.

Replacing Lost Fluids

Rehydrating is something that can be overlooked. If you don’t hydrate yourself adequately, especially after an intense workout, you are depleting your energy stores. Refueling yourself properly is not just about having high-quality protein, but it’s about making sure that you are able to get the salt back into your body. Many people drink electrolyte drinks, but it’s as simple as putting some salt in some water. When you lose the fluids, you could very well feel the negative impact of it a couple of days later rather than right away.

Listening to Your Body

It is incredibly important when you start working out that you listen to your body. You may feel that you are able to go 110%, but when you really push it, you will feel pretty bad over the next day or so. Some people may take longer to recover depending on their body type. The best thing you can do is to avoid overtraining. You can always see if you have recovered properly because the next time you go back, you won’t be able to repeat the same levels of fitness. There is nothing wrong with having a break.
