Working From Home? These Productivity Tips Can Help You Succeed

December 18, 2020 by Alison Leave a Comment

A lot of people are working from home again. Some might not have gone back in since the whole coronavirus pandemic kicked off. Others might have gone in and started working at home again due to cases slipping upward once more. There are some great perks to working from home, but it can be tough to maintain your productivity. These tips can give you a hand. The issue is that every home is unique, as is every person. What works for one, might not for the other due to working differently or because the home is different. It means you need to try and apply the advice to yourself as best you can.

Be Comfortable

You have to be comfortable wherever you work. This doesn’t mean being able to lounge around in your pajamas, it means you have to be in a comfortable position while using your laptop or computer. If you’re not sat at a flat topped surface you may get joint pain and end up needing Glucosamine Chondroitin. A coffee table or dining table is fine. Laying on the sofa isn’t. It might feel comfy but it won’t do you any good. A desk is the easy option but if you don’t have the space for one you might have to get creative. You need the right chair to fit the desk or table too, so that your back is supported and comfortable.

Internet Connection

It needs to be running smooth and fast if you want to work productively. This is especially the case if you are using video calling or graphically intensive software based in the cloud. For a start, make sure you’re working close to the router. If you aren’t, consider a wifi booster. They’re not too expensive and can really make a positive impact on your connection. If this still doesn’t work it might be worth investing in a solid ethernet cable and going for a wired connection. This should help things considerably especially if you’re far from the router. Still nothing? You may need to pay for a faster internet connection or alternatively call your provider and ask them why it is so slow.

Safe Space

Working can be hard enough, never mind when your family is interrupting and distracting you all the time. Try to set up a safe space for you to work and make sure they know you’re not to be disturbed during this time. This means you’re away from communal areas like the living room and kitchen so you aren’t distracted by TV and chatter. It’s hard when you have kids but you need to lay down the ground rules so they don’t disturb you and ruin your productivity. This gets tough over the festive period when kids aren’t in school, but it highlights how important it is to try and get your own space. It also impacts the above because if the kids are streaming shows or online gaming your connecting might drop a bit, especially if you’re on video calls. So you may need to limit these activities too.
