5 Tips For A Stress-Free Family Move

January 12, 2023 by Alison Leave a Comment

If you and your family are ready to move to a bigger home and find new opportunities you are probably just as worried about the stress as you are excited about this next chapter in your life. No matter who you are, moving is always stressful. It never feels like there is enough time to do everything, and there’s always the worry about something going wrong. However, a move doesn’t need to be as stressful as long as you remember these tips.

Start Preparing Early

Sometimes, you need to move with little notice, especially if your landlord decides they want to sell the property or increase the rent. However, if you can anticipate a move in your future, you can take gradual steps to ensure you’re prepared. While you needn’t start packing everything away, you can focus on decluttering your home to reduce the amount of stuff you will need to pack. You can also reduce consumption and purchases to make packing more straightforward when the time comes.

Get Help

If you’re planning a big move, whether out of state or further across the country, you can make things easier by working with a household moving company. Rather than make multiple trips back and forth (which is not expensive and unfeasible), you can make sure everything arrives at your new property at the same time. This is a great way to keep things efficient and puts the responsibility of larger items in the hands of professionals.

Assign A Day For Sort Out the Paperwork

Many people forget about accounts, bills, and mail when moving house. If you’re moving far away, it becomes inconvenient to go back and forth to pick up mail, and you don’t want to bother the new residents. It’s best to take a day to sort out all your paperwork. This includes informing companies about your new address as well as checking contracts and leases to make sure you have everything in order.

Get the Kids Involved

Some kids can struggle with moving house. They don’t want to be away from friends or places they are familiar with. To overcome this issue, you can get them involved in the moving process depending on how old they are and what they are capable of. Teenagers should pack their own things, while younger kids can help you with any last-minute essentials to keep them entertained.

Pack a First Night Kit

The last thing you want to do when you arrive is unpack. This checklist of your first night bag will help you settle in without any stress. It should contain toothbrushes, clothes, bedding, and everything else you’ll need to get through the night. You can also think about what you want to eat. Ordering in is usually the best solution, so treat yourself and enjoy your first night in your new home.

And Breathe

As stressful as moving house can be, you can remember these tips to help you feel better and stay focused during the whole process. By ensuring you are one step ahead of schedule at every turn, you will be able to make the move as smooth as possible and look forward to the exciting next chapter in your life.
