Who’s a flip flop fan? This girl!! I love them…all kinds, colors, and styles. I have some with a bottle opener on the bottom for the beach. Shiny, classy ones for the office. Blingy ones to wear with Wranglers, and my comfy worn to the max ones for evenings around the house after work. If it’s a flip flop I will buy it and I will love it until the straps literally fall off. (My sister actually broke a flip flop at my wedding, because yes, my ladies rocked the flip flop!)
My very favorites that I wear year round are my super comfy Sanuks with the Yoga Mat soles. (Just try a pair on…they’re freaking amazing!) I wear flip flops with everything. Jeans, skirts, short, yoga pants, sweats, slacks, you name it, I can find a pair of flip flops to match it. (When I wear them to work we call them “sandals” because flips flops are “casual” and we can’t have that!) Now that being said, there are a few rules that should be followed before jumping right in to flip flop wearing season…some simple flip flop etiquette (according to me of course) if you will.
Tips for Successful Flip Flop Wearing
- Paint those toes. Obviously a pedicure takes care of all those winter foot issues and is the very best option, but it’s not always affordable. (Trust me I know this.) But at the very least, pick up a $1 bottle of Wet & Wild, clip and paint those nails. Even a clear coat is better than uncared for toenails; a little effort goes a long way. Your feet, and everyone that has to see them in your awesome sandals will thank you for it.
- Buy Flip Flops That Fit. Ladies (and gents), you don’t want your heels hanging off the back, your toes hanging off the front, or both. It’s not cute. When your flops are too short for your foot everyone can see dirty heels and toes when you walk around and it’s just tacky. They don’t have the ones you want in the perfect size or your feet grew a size from your last pregnancy (this happened to me)? Find something else…seriously, a different style will look better than a size too small.
- Buff Those Heels. Now again, the pedi is magical and will take care of this issue for you, but if can’t get in to get one, you can take care of this yourself. Try this little trick (well, there are actually 10) that I found online for a cracked heel, flip flop approved, home remedy. If you wear sandals, especially flip flops, your feet will be visible to the world and the last thing people want to look at is dirt, nasty, cracked heels. It’s just not very becoming.
- Skip the Flips. Plain and simple, if you don’t have the time or patience to follow these 3 simple rules, skip the flip flops.

June 10, 2014 at 7:39 pmOkay, I don’t wear flip flops that much because I usually don’t find them comfortable. However, I love having something to throw on when going in and out of the house. The Sanuks you described sound awesome. I might have to look into those.
Found you through the Blogger’s Digest!
Have a great week!

June 11, 2014 at 10:13 amI’m coming over from the Blogger’s Digest and was not sure where you were going to go with this post (flip flop etiquette?!). But I agree with all these tips! Nobody wants to see dirty busted up feet. I used to be one of those women with the cracked heels that just did not look good in flops but I started taking just a minute or two during/after every shower to help with that and now, no problems!

June 17, 2014 at 7:10 pmI’ve been seeing this thing floating around on FB that says something like “if your feet look like you could swoop down and snatch up your dinner, don’t wear sandals.” LOL This makes me think of that!

July 26, 2017 at 7:40 amWearing flip-flops and walking barefoot is one of my favorite things about Summer weather, but unfortunately it can damage the skin on my feet.
I had cracked heels that just did not look good in flops but I followed this guide (https://www.footcaresource.com/home-remedies-for-dry-cracked-feet/) taking just a minute or two during every shower to help with that.
