No matter what the reason or when you decide it’s time to buy a home, it’s a huge decision. It’s exciting, but it’s also stressful and confusing at times. Technically we’ve purchased two homes, but the first was very small, inexpensive, and on an owner contract so we didn’t actually deal with bank financing at that time. It didn’t take long for us to outgrow that house though since our family was growing and we wanted things like pets, livestock, and just more space. Since we didn’t deal with any banks when we purchased our first home, we really had no idea what to expect when we started trying to get a mortgage for our current home. Interest rates, types of financing, appraisals, points, escrow; it was a lot to wrap our heads around. It was exciting because I could finally paint my walls red, or blue or whatever color I wanted (and believe me, I did both!). We had room to grow our family, a place for horses and yes, more dogs!! Because if you know me at all, a life is no life at all without dogs! So many plans and dream coming to fruition, but there was a lot of anxiety and yes, fear there too. This is a HUGE decision. Is it the right one? Do I know what I’m doing? Oh my gosh I need an adultier adult to help me!! Holy mood swings Batman!! (Okay so we may have closed on our house while I was still on maternity leave with my daughter so those hormones could have played a teeny tiny part, but whatever!)
Because there is so much to learn and to understand when purchasing a home it’s super important that you choose a great bank to partner with. One that is willing to not only guide, but to explain and to teach you along the way because purchasing your home is one of the biggest purchases and one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. It’s an experience that you want to be positive because it really can set the tone for the next chapter in your life. Having a mortgage partner that you trust is key and all banks are not made the same. We were fortunate to have a lender that really walked us through everything, worked with us to find the best options for our needs and plans, and that was available to answer questions, that to them probably seemed trivial.
SunTrust is working hard to be that trusted lender for new homebuyers in today’s market. The SunTrust onUp movement is about having the confidence to move forward—one smart step at a time. Owning a home is one of the largest financial milestones and understanding what is happening and why every step of the way makes you a more confident home buyer and ultimately homeowner. SunTrust Mortgage has a team of experts that are committed to helping future homeowners find a mortgage that fits their life. SunTrust understands that mortgages are’t one size fits all and they strive to provide the resources and tools to help inform borrowers who aspire to become homeowners or are looking for their next home.
