When you look around, you notice that everyone wants to be healthier. I have my own reasons for wanting to be healthier and I’m sure you have reasons as well. I have two very good reasons for wanting to be healthier; my kids are 4 and 13 and I want to be able to keep up with them. It’s not secret that as you get older, your body changes and it can be hard to keep up with your kids, I’m just not sure how that happened seemingly overnight. Now that I’m serious about making some changes, their get up and go is keeping me motivated to get healthier.
Moms – The Heart of Families
Just because you are a mom, it doesn’t mean you can’t live a long, energetic and healthy life. Moms have the power to make this change for themselves and their families for the better – we’re just that important. The American Heart Association wants moms a to be able to experience as much as they can in life and to be able to teach their families to do the same. You can’t be the best version of your self if you are not taking care of your body though. To live life to its fullest, you need to make healthy choices every day, so your body and mind can be healthy for you, your children, and your family.
I know many moms feel the same way I do about their families. We are pivotal to our families and decisions we make affect every family member. I cannot imagine not being around for my kids because I didn’t take the time to make healthy choices. Every decision I make, my kids and family members are watching me. I am setting the example for everyone else to make healthy choices in their lives too. The American Heart Association wants moms to realize that they have the power to incite real change.
American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month and it’s the perfect time to resolve to get healthy. The AHA is focused on funding life-saving research and science advances to help people live healthier, longer lives and they want people to experience more of life’s precious moments. But to do that, we must be healthy in heart and mind. The heart is where life’s moments are felt most, and the mind is where we relive them again and again. The American Heart Association has many resources to help you get on the road to good choices. They have some amazing recipes, healthy tips, tricks for moms, and information on heart and brain health, all of which can be found on their Pinterest boards.
A Healthier Me
I wanted to share some ways that I intend on being healthier on a daily basis for my kids and for myself. I want to be able to keep up with my kids every day. Kids require a lot of energy and I need the stamina to keep up with them. I plan on doing all of the small things that help make that come a little bit easier.I need to be more active. With two very sedentary jobs, I need to force myself to get up and get away from the screen more. I already eat a lot of veggies, but I plan on increasing my daily consumption of fruits as well. I’m also focused on consuming less sodium and drinking less sugary drinks. I also need to pay closer attention to my blood pressure. I have gotten so lackadaisical that I don’t even take my hypertension meds like I should and that’s not okay. It’s just asking for problems in the future that I can help prevent today and there’s no way to justify consciously making that decision. Life Is Why
I hope you will join me this month and every month to get healthy and stay healthy. Moms united can make real change! Together we will get healthy for our families and stay that way. I’d love for you to share your “getting healthy” tips with me as well. Together, and with the help of the American Heart Association, we’ll all be healthier in 2016!
