Time With Your Other Baby: Getting Some Time With Your Partner When On Vacation With Kids

Of all the positives to a family vacation, when we head out with the sole purpose of having quality time as a family unit, we really need time to ourselves. This is especially true with us as parents. Perhaps we are forever doing things back at home, so we never get to spend proper time together. And when you are on vacation with children, your resources can be tapped even further. You have to structure the vacation, find things to do that benefits everyone, but also, you are in a new place. This means that you have to have your wits about you! So what can you do if you and your partner really want to have some proper time away from the children?

Bring The Grandparents

The first and most obvious option is to bring the grandparents. That way, you will have some proper time to yourself and do the things that you don’t normally have a chance to do. Perhaps you want to recapture your nightclubbing days while being on vacation in a place like Las Vegas. If this sounds like you, Omnia is one of the area’s best so you can truly let your hair down. But when it comes to bringing the grandparents, you have got to think that you are all deserving of some quiet time. It’s best to structure the days accordingly, but also so make sure that everybody has adequate downtime. Even if it’s an opportunity to get away for a meal in the evening, you still need to balance it out with the parental duties.

Promoting Some Independence

It all depends on how old your children are. If you’ve got teenagers, this is the ideal opportunity to encourage some independence. Sometimes when we go to a foreign country, there are things that you can do and put in place to placate the children. Sometimes there are child-friendly groups, so at the very least, your children will be hanging around with like-minded people. As well, if you want some downtime, suggest splitting up and meeting back in an hour or so. Yes, it’s only an hour, but it’s the perfect chance to have some time to yourself. At the same time, you are also promoting independence with your children. It takes a lot of trust, but now might be the opportunity.

Choose The Right Resort

There are some resorts that offer a “babe watch” service. This is where they will look after babies and toddlers on a beach in a shady area while parents go for a swim or a stroll. Not every resort does this, but if you are looking for adequate downtime, especially if you feel you haven’t had a break, this will be a good option. We have to remember that sometimes, having a little bit of a break can help to rejuvenate us. We don’t necessarily have to run away for the entire night but if you are booking a vacation purely so you can have some adequate downtime, where it’s just the two of you, you must think about picking the right place, with enough things to distract the children, but also make sure that you feel safe.
