Listening To Your Intuition When You Have A Baby

June 12, 2020 by Alison Leave a Comment

Becoming a parent will be one of the most scary, exciting, and joyous times of your life. However, having children often emphasizes the need to listen to your intuition. You will have many people around you telling you how you ‘should’ be doing things, but everybody is different. The best thing you can do is listen to your intuition to determine what is best for you and your baby. Nobody can tell you what is best for you and your baby!

With that in mind, here, we’re going to discuss how you can begin to do this. Listening to your intuition can be scary, and you may find that you gaslight yourself at first as you second guess and go backwards and forwards. However, with practice you will soon be able to listen to your intuition and make decisions, no matter how tough they may be. Read on to get in touch with your intuition!

Meditate, Relax, And Breathe

The first thing you need to do is relax. Many parents aren’t used to relaxing, but this is the most important part of listening to your intuition. If you’re stressed out, super busy, and have barely any time to yourself then you’re going to struggle to listen to your intuition.

People find that different things soothe them, but getting into a meditation habit can make a huge difference! Meditating can be tough to begin with, but with consistency, you will begin to appreciate the benefits. Use an app or a YouTube video to help you if you need guidance.

If you don’t have anywhere to sit and meditate but you need to relax, take some deep breaths. Deep breathing is such an underrated exercise for those who are stressed out, and it’s free and easy to do anywhere.

Drop Into Your Gut

Next time you feel stressed and unable to make a decision, first relax and then try to drop into your gut. That gut feeling is never wrong, but we often second guess it as we feel unable to slow down and really listen.

Observe How You Feel

A really important thing to do is avoid mistaking fear for intuition. Intuition is calm, whereas fear and anxiety are loud. If you have anxiety, that doesn’t necessarily mean the decision you want to make is wrong. You simply need to relax and come back to the question.

Take Up A Physical Activity To Get In Touch With Your Body

Moving your body can help you to get back in touch with your feelings and clear your mind.

Doing it in nature is even better, so try to get out for a walk or a run.

Journal And Don’t Censor Yourself

‘Freewriting’ is a great journaling technique. You simply write what comes into your head and don’t censor yourself as you go. You never know what you might learn by doing this. Doing it for 5 minutes each morning could help to set you up for the day, and doing it in the evening can help you to de-stress ready for bed.

You could find yourself torn about something as trivial whether to buy https://tastyganics.com/ for your baby, but you can still use freewriting. You will often spot patterns and a way of thinking that helps you to identify the right thing to do.

Stop Asking Other People For The Answers

It’s easy to get ‘Google happy’ when you have a concern or question, or even to ask people you know or people on your Facebook page for answers. Don’t. This will do nothing but confuse you and distract you from the right answer that is already there somewhere inside of you.

Be Consistent

Consistency is so important if you really want to get good at listening to yourself. Be consistent when it comes to meditating, and get used to asking yourself for the answer rather than other people. The more you trust yourself, the better you will get at it and the more comfortable you will feel.

When you commit to listening to your own intuition, this will often rub off on your kids as they grow. Kids can quickly learn not to trust themselves as they grow older, as the world around them sends them all kinds of mixed messages. Watching you should make a huge difference to how intuitive, and therefore how happy they are. You may find that you ‘wobble’ from time to time, but when you catch yourself, take a deep breath and step back. It’ll make a big difference!
