Leap Into Gaming – Leap TV

November 20, 2014 by Alison 4 Comments

I received a LeapTV kit free from Mom Select and LeapFrog in exchange for my honest opinion. My love for video games and fun is all my own!

It’s no secret that kids love video games. Heck, adults love video games! But what do you do for the little guys and gals that aren’t quite ready for the XBox or Playstation because those platforms really can be over their head. Of course we also want the babes to focus more on learning and creative play right? How do you balance the video games and educational concepts especially for kiddos as young as 3 (because you know that’s exactly about the age they want to be doing what brother or sister does). Enter LeapTV from Leapfrog! We all know Leapfrog has been making educational books, games and toys forever and have proven to be very successful and combining fun and learning. The newest addition to their lineup is the LeapTV which promises to get little minds and bodies working together in a fun, exciting and interactive way! LeapTV is designed for kids aged 3 to 8, but trust me when I say even the kiddos a little older than 8 were loving this!

First off, when the box with our LeapTV arrived, my kids (young and a little older) couldn’t wait to get the system hooked up.  We decided to “Leap Into Gaming” by inviting some neighbors, my sister, nieces, and nephews over so everyone could really check this thing out. The Dance & Learn game was a big hit — I mean who doesn’t like a living room dance party!  The thing I loved about this is that my 3 year old could use the system and understand the games so she actually got to play, but my 12 year old had a good time playing around with it as well. For the first time every, both of my kids were actually able to play the same game together instead of just giving my toddler a controller with no batteries like we usually do and let her “think” she was playing games with brother. For me, that’s huge!

The system was super easy to set up and connect to the wireless network. It came with simple instructions, an easy to use controller, and the games were just as easy to set up for the various profiles or levels of complexity. I like that because I don’t want to have to fuss with something for 30 minutes or an hour before the kids can even get started playing.  Another really cool feature is that when the games begin, the kiddos line themselves up with the motion sensing camera and it reads the height of each child so you can have a variety of sizes or ages playing together!

Obviously the games are fun, but they also have educational content incorporated into the game themes so the kids are learning and they don’t even realize it! Yay!!  When you enter your child’s information and age at the beginning, the games will automatically adapt to each individual child which helps to keep kids learning at their own pace. LeapTV has over 100 games to choose from at this point with more released planned in the near future.  If  you want to learn more about the new LeapTV gaming system or stay up to date on current promitions, be sure to visit LeapFrog online, on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

What would be your favorite feature about the LeapTV system? What do you think your kiddos would love about it? Let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading!
