I wouldn’t say I’m overly health conscious, as in I don’t necessarily say may family can’t eat certain things, but I do try to have the less healthy stuff in moderation. I also try to keep an eye out for healthier alternatives like sugar substitutes. One of the newer sugar alternative on the market is Monk Fruit in the Raw, which is a naturally occurring, plant based sweetener. Oh, and did I mention that it’s a zero calorie sweetner? Winning! My opportunity to try Monk Fruit in the Raw and share it with friends and family came at the perfect time since the holidays are upon on us and a baking party was going to be happening anyway.
I’ve tried sugar alternatives before and ya’ll know what they’re like. Some are pretty good, but you can tell that they’re not real sugar most of the time depending on how you’re using them. I tried to go into this with no expectations for the product – I didn’t want to judge it before I had the chance to really try it. Just one orange packet of Monk Fruit in the Raw packs the sweetness of about two teaspoons of regular sugar and since it measures just like sugar, the Bakers Bag formula is perfect to use in your favorite sweet recipes. Just take a look at the fudge I whipped up – it was delicious and if I hadn’t told them, nobody would have ever known that I swapped out regular sugar for Monk Fruit in the Raw in the recipe!
Texture wise, Monk Fruit in the Raw is very similar to other sugar alternatives I’ve used in the past. White, light and fluffy, not really feeling anything like regular sugar. It mixed well though and the flavor was great. Could I tell the difference? Yes, in coffee and drinks but I was looking for one – had I not known I had changed something, I doubt that I would have noticed. In the baked goods, I couldn’t tell any changes had been made to the original recipe and not a single one of my guests had any idea anything was different until I revealed to them what they were really enjoying.
Overall the party was fabulous, the product, samples, recipes, and coupons were a huge hit, and I think we definitely have some Monk Fruit in the Raw converts in the making! To find out more or for amazing recipe ideas make sure to check out In The Raw on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.
