Thank you to Planet Fitness for sponsoring this post. My desire not to be judged is 100% my own.
Don’t you wish this was true? Don’t you wish that people waited until they knew someone to form opinions. Don’t you wish that your imperfections weren’t a source of insecurity because people really didn’t care as long as you were a good person? We all know that it isn’t a perfect world but in this imperfect place I’m happy to report that there is a place we can go that truly is a Judgement Free Zone®. That place is Planet Fitness. Cheesy? Okay it may sound that way and I get it, but if you’ve been around a bit you know that like many others I struggle with my weight and because of that I struggle with my self-confidence.
It hasn’t always been that way – in fact it was almost NEVER that way until about the last 4 years. For a whole number of reason all compunded together I’ve reached a weight that’s the heaviest I’ve ever been, and one that I’m not proud of. I’m not saying big can’t be beautiful, but it’s not what I strive to be and it’s taking a toll on my health, physically and emotionally. Alas, this isn’t a story about my struggles though, rather just a little insight on what prompted me to join Planet Fitness a couple of months ago.
You see, I’ve never be really comfortable in a gym setting. Back in the day when I was a hard core athlete, maybe, but I didn’t need a gym then – now I do and some gyms I’ve visited leave me feeling embarrassed and more insecure than when I walked in, which is not what is supposed to happen. Gyms should make you want to be there, want to get healthier, and leave every single time more motived to keep pushing yourself than when you came in the door.
A gym skeptic, I decided to give Planet Finess a try and from the initial tour when I registered to every time I walk in to get a little workout in (which isn’t often enough, but baby steps right?), so far I’ve been pleased and never felt like I just didn’t fit in there. It’s very evident that the staff and members alike all truly practice the philosophy of maintaining a Judgement Free Zone®, and that’s what a person trying to better themself needs; a non-intimidating, hassle-free, welcoming environment that makes everyone feel comfortable.
