If you’ve been following a long this summer, I’ve mentioned a method of Flea & Tick Control called BRAVECTO® (Fluralaner) that I’m pretty fond of. I love that it’s chewable and I love that it works so fast! It makes keeping my crazy pack of hounds flea & tick free with makes me stress less and less stress is always a winner in my book! Because it’s a chewable, extended duration flea and tick control method, Bravecto is easy to use, mess free, long lasting (provides protections from fleas and ticks for up to 12 weeks*) and very effective. However, it is only available through your veterinarian so if you haven’t already, now is as good a time as any to pop in for a chat.
We all know fleas and ticks are annoying at least, but in some cases, they can also create serious health problems for our pet and for you’re pets humans. Why on earth wouldn’t we want to take preventative action to avoid all that if something so easy to use is available? Work smarter not harder I always say. If you’re ready to begin this conversation, here’s a list of questions that you should be asking so that you and your vet can determine the best flea and tick control method for your dog and your lifestyle:
- What’s new? Flea and tick control products in general are not new. Some have been around for decades, but there are new products on the market. Some of those may be better suited for your pet and your lifestyle than what you have been using, and maybe what you’ve been using is still the best fit. You won’t know until you ask though so inquire as to what new products are available that you should be considering.
- What is best for my pet and for my lifestyle? As I touched on above, your lifestyle and how your pet fits into that lifestyle may be a factor in what flea and tick prevention products will and will not work well for you. Maybe you need something easy to administer because you have a large dog, maybe your dog is a diva you want options that are fuss free, maybe you need something that you don’t have to give as often because you’re always on the go or maybe the side effects your pet has to a product aren’t desirable – these are all things that should be considered.
- Prescription or Over the Counter? There are differences between the two categories and your vet can educate you on those differences so that you can make a sound decision based on all the facts.
- What should I expect from my flea and tick control? Is what you’re currently using working the way it should? Are you expecting miracles or not seeing results that you think you should? Maybe you’re not using the right product for what you’re intending to accomplish. Your vet can tell you what to expect from each product and that’s good information to be armed with when deciding what the best flea and tick prevention method is for your family.
Once you have some of these answers, you can be confident that you’re making the best decision for you and for your pet. If you would like more information, of course talk to your vet, but if you are interested in learning more about Bravecto specifically, be sure to visit their website.
