Monitoring Depression – There’s An App for That!

December 2, 2016 by Alison

This post was developed in partnership with Pfizer as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

Let’s talk about depression. Yup you heard me right. Today we’re not talking about a fun recipe, or the insanity that is my schedule, or something crafty or even anything funny…we’re taking a minute to talk about depression. It can affect anyone and chances are that you or someone close to you struggles with depression in one capacity or another. Depression can creep into peoples lives for so many reasons and that’s why it is so important to talk about and be aware of – because there’s no one size fits all guide to recognizing or managing depression or even for really understanding why you may feel the way you do.  Because realizing what works for each individual and what doesn’t is so important, Pfizer has developed an app that may help people with depression.

Monitoring Depression

The app, called Moodivator, is free in the iTunes store and it’s super simple to set up and use. I mean think about it…we use our mobile devices almost constantly and we use apps for so much of what we do. We can track our package, our steps, our calories, our heart rate, and pretty much anything else we want, so why not one that can help those with depression track mood, set goals, and establish routines that can help motivate with everyday activities? Really it just seems logical to me – to have something like this so that anyone that may be suffering with depression, can have a more active role in managing their condition and have the ability to share this information with their physician.

It’s not exactly a secret that millions of people in the United States suffer from depression. That breaks down to roughly one in 15 adults so the chance of you knowing or even being someone who is affected, is pretty good. And you know what, that’s okay because this life we live, it’s tough and for many who are struggling with depression, things often feel overwhelming  and you can feel like you’re the only one who could possibly know what it feels like. Fortunately there are several avenues of treatment for depression such as talk therapy, medication, peer support, and a personal wellness plan. The Moodivator app is designed to motivate and help complement other possible treatment options. By allowing individuals to track moods, set goals and recognize trends and routines it can help pinpoint things that are working for a person or maybe identify aspects that you can change for the better.

If you want to find out more, be sure to check out this video and if you think that Moodivator would be a great tool for you or someone you know, it can be downloaded for free for iPhones on the iTunes app store today! Of course if you are struggling with depression or even think you might be, talk with your physician to talk about the available tools and resources and get started on a treatment that fits you.

The Moodivator app is not a treatment for depression and does not take the place of your doctor’s care or advice. This app also includes information about a prescription treatment option for depression.
