The southeastern part of Asia has really exploded into a cacophony of fabulous vacation destinations over the last decade. Almost one in every three people on your Instagram feed have probably posted pictures being in one of the countries around this area. It’s a place full of outstanding natural beauty, phenomenal cuisines, and loads of things to do. So, it’s no surprise that one of the hottest vacation destinations of 2020 is located in southeast Asia!
Yes, the title gives it away, but Malaysia is one of the go-to spots this year. It’s a gorgeous island country just a stone’s throw away from Vietnam, and there’s plenty on offer. Seeing as many of you are already planning your big summer trip for this year, I thought it would make sense to take a look at why Malaysia has become so popular.
Warm weather all-year-round
One of the main attractions in Malaysia is the climate. While it does have monsoon periods, there’s one thing that remains constant throughout the year; the heat. It’s always warm on this lovely little island, and this makes it such a fun place to visit. There’s something uplifting about going away and knowing you’ll be treated to endless sun and warmth the whole time. As long as you miss the monsoon season, you’re pretty much guaranteed hot and sunny weather.
Extremely friendly locals
The local people in Malaysia are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. It’s a diverse country, but everyone is nice to strangers. They’re willing to lend a helping hand if you need directions, and don’t be surprised if someone randomly starts talking to you. They have a constant smile on their faces – which is probably because they live in such a beautiful country with stunning weather!
Cheap places to stay
Malaysia is pretty darn affordable for the majority of the population. What’s more, it boasts a range of excellent accommodation options in lots of different cities. Kuala Lumpur is obviously the most popular place to stay, so expect to see prices rise a bit here. But, in smaller cities like Ipoh, you can find exceptional value for money. In fact, you can probably even find an Ipoh rent house to stay in for a few weeks or months – if you’re looking for a long-term vacation. No matter where you stay, you’ll be greeted by lovely people who want to make your visit as amazing as possible. Plus, you end up with lots of extra spending money.
Malay food
Malay is the name given to Malaysian cuisine. Now, let me tell you that this is one of the most delicious cuisines on planet earth. It’s influenced by typical southeast Asian flavors, but with a unique twist. There’s something truly mesmerizing about the food in this country. It’s like an explosion of flavor takes place in your mouth with every bite. People literally travel here from other nearby countries just to try the food! You’ll find loads of great places to eat in Malaysia as well, with a broad range of restaurants and street food vendors to choose from.
The Kuala Lumpur skyline
I’ve mentioned Kuala Lumpur already, and it’s a big magnet for tourists in this country. There are loads of brilliant things to do around this stunning city. However, the best thing is the skyline. Wait until the sun sets, then perch yourself at a viewing point to see one of the best skylines in the world. The Petronas Twin Towers dominate the landscape and are so photo-worthy. It’s a sight to behold, and well worth the trip.
Gorgeous temples
Malaysia is packed full of a variety of stunning temples for you to visit. This includes so many different types of temples, but they’re all in magnificent locations. Some are up on hills within the natural landscape, giving you panoramic views of the surrounding areas. Others are nestled between incredible architecture in beautiful cities. Make it your mission to see all of the best temples in Malaysia and you won’t spend a single second feeling bored during your trip!
Unbelievable beaches
Last but not least, the beaches. Malaysian beaches are like something picked straight out of a postcard. The golden sand and bright blue ocean are truly outstanding. To make things even better, many of the beaches have snorkeling or scuba diving classes available. This means you can take a dip underwater and say hello to all the marine life.
I’m not going to lie, writing this has made me want to pack my bags and jet off right away! Malaysia is a stunning country, and it’s clear to see why so many people are heading out there this year.
