Your home is where you want to feel most secure and comfortable. It’s your own private space, big or small, and where you go to relax after a long, hard day. There are many ways you can make your home feel more calming, and to ensure that you have peace of mind when you’re there. Look into properly spring cleaning your place and general maintenance, then you’ll be ready to have fun with decorating!

Clean up

It’s easier to relax when the house is tidy, so get rid of any clutter or mess. Try to keep on top of it, this will help to reduce stress and keep you feeling at ease. Think of new ways to rearrange your furniture to create a more welcoming environment. For some tips on how to do this, click here.

Maintenance

Do some routine maintenance, or for bigger jobs hire someone to come round. Finally fix those nags that have been bothering you for ages. An improperly maintained place can be dangerous to live in so be careful. If you have any accidents in your house caused by this you can contact Jonathan Rosenfeld. You want to make sure you are always safe at home to give you peace of mind. Once you know your house is safe and secure, it can be easier to feel relaxed and at home.

Nostalgia

Why not decorate the place with your memories? You could decorate with photos and memories from your childhood. Leave some whimsical stuffed animals around to cheer up the place.

Green life

Plants and flowers have a proven positive effect on your mood. They also help to clean the air, as they eat away the nasty carbon dioxide. If you’re worried about looking after them you could always sneakily buy plastic ones.

Aromatherapy

Real plants however, will add some pleasant smells to your place. If not, why not try aromatherapy candles, oils or incense to help create a relaxing environment. There are a variety of scents particularly for relaxation and calm.

Warmth

Add texture and warmth to any room by adding rugs, pillows and blankets. These all create a sense of warmth and comfort. You can snuggle up and feel at home as soon as you get in.

Color

Which colors reflect your mood? Which help you to feel calm and positive? There is a psychology of color relating to interior design which can help you. White creates light for example and a healthy feeling atmosphere, as well as light greens and blues. Sunny colors like warm yellow can also cheer you up. Check out the colors trending this year, or if not, just go with your favorites. You can also decorate empty walls with the artwork that best shows off your personality!

Create relaxing zones

Set up an area to read or write. This could be in front of the window or somewhere well lit. You could also set up a place to eat breakfast, or have afternoon tea on your own when you first arrive home.
