Nowadays, many of us neglect ourselves. We run ourselves down and overwork ourselves. We put too much strain on our bodies and often don’t bother giving them everything they need to keep running efficiently. Really, we should give ourselves the right care and endow ourselves with all the right skills to keep safe and well. So, it’s time to make a change and start really doing our utmost to look after ourselves. Here are just a few different areas you might want to focus on!
Focusing on Diet and Exercise
One of the main areas you can work on that will have a profound impact on your physical well-being is to focus on maintaining a healthy diet and hitting your recommended amounts of exercise. Sure, this may sound basic. But so many people don’t do this, so it’s always good to give people a reminder and gentle push in the right direction! When it comes to diet, you don’t necessarily need to survive on super-foods to feel healthy. Instead, just make things balanced. Stick to your recommended calorie intake (2500 calories a day for the average man and 2000 calories a day for the average woman) and ensure things are balanced. This means getting sufficient carbs, protein, fats and vitamins and minerals each and every day. Avoid entirely cutting out food groups. Instead, just be reasonable and moderate.
Practicing Self Defence
Hopefully, you’ll never find yourself in a situation where you need to practice self defense. However, it’s always a good idea to have the skill set behind you just in case of trouble. As the saying goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It can also help to alleviate anxiety and improve peace of mind knowing you are able to defend yourself if necessary. Now, a good place to start with learning self defense is to take some sort of martial arts class. Not only will this teach you valuable skills, but you’ll get a fair amount of your recommended 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise each week through this practice too. Bonus! As well as martial arts classes, you can take classes specifically designed for self defense in a real world situation, such as knife defense classes.
Monitoring Your Mental Health
We’re growing increasingly aware of mental health conditions and increasingly accepting of mental health conditions. This is incredibly important, as it allows us to get the care we need should we need it. It also means others are more understanding of common symptoms and you are more likely to deal with conditions that you do experience more effectively. So, just monitor your mental health. If you ever have any concerns, there are so many sources of support out there. You can reach out to your doctor or another healthcare professional, a helpline, a support group, understanding family and friends and many more.
These are just simple ways to look after yourself. But they are all going to benefit you in the long run! So, spare a little thought for yourself and give yourself a little me-time. You deserve it!
