Exploring the United States on a Shoestring Budget

April 8, 2021 by Alison Leave a Comment

The United States is an absolutely outstanding country. It’s a massive landmass with a huge mix of different cultures and traditions, so it can often be daunting trying to figure out where you want to visit. In fact, we firmly believe that it’s virtually impossible to explore every single nook and cranny of the country unless you’re a dedicated traveler that makes a living exploring the world.

With the United States being such a huge place, you can imagine that it gets rather expensive going from one state to another. Bouncing around different cities is relatively easy thanks to the robust forms of travel in the country, but it can get pricey if you’re not sure how to save money. So in this post, we’re going to offer a couple of tips on how you can explore the United States on a small budget.

Go for lesser-known locations that are bound to be cheaper

Everyone that travels across the states for the first time will no doubt want to visit places such as Miami, Las Vegas, New York City, and so on. After all, these are the well-known locations that everyone knows about. They’ve seen them in films and they’ve read about them in books, so it makes sense they want to go to these iconic places.

However, why not consider lesser-known locations? These are arguably much better locations to visit if you want to get a real feel for what the country has to offer. For example, there are plenty of fun things to do in Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, and Devil’s Tower in Wyoming is an absolutely stunning place to visit. If you move away from all of the big tourist attractions, you’ll find cheap and amazing attractions that are just waiting to be discovered. The United States is a treasure trove of breathtaking sights, but you need to be willing to visit lesser-known locations to truly experience the beauty the country has to offer.

Consider the way you travel across the country

Travel is one of the biggest expenses in a trip. Thankfully, there are a plethora of ways to get around the country–especially if you’re resourceful. For instance, if you’re interested in visiting Ohio from a nearby state, then you might want to consider a road trip instead of taking a plane or a train. A road trip is usually a lot more interesting since you’ll get to experience a lot of different scenery along the way, and you can also stop off at multiple different locations.

There are loads of things to experience when you take a road trip instead, but taking the train can also be a relaxing way to get across the country. Trains can take you almost anywhere and while they are slower, you get to experience more of the country’s amazing scenery at a much more relaxed pace. However, you will need to plan ahead to book tickets and ensure you don’t spend too much time waiting for a train at the station.
