With so many of us leading busy lives, it can be easy to get wrapped up in the everyday and forget to take time for ourselves. This is why today we want to share with you a few suggestions to do just this, our 4 ways to be kind to yourself.
Make sure that you get enough sleep
Everyone needs to get enough sleep to function at their best. We know this, yet we do not all make the effort to tick this basic need off. It is all too easy to burn the candle at both ends, and of course then the inevitable happens and we ourselves burnout.
Aim to get early nights when you need them, and then try to set yourself up with a regular sleeping pattern and bedtime routine. Switch off from screens around half an hour before you intend to go to sleep and avoid any caffeine.
You could also try using items such as eye masks, ear plugs and weighted blankets if you are struggling to sleep. If this is something that might be for you, it is worth checking out this weight blanket FAQ to find out more.
Spend time with your dog
Research shows that spending time with your dog is good for you. Dogs can be great stress relievers and can help to lower blood pressure, anxiety levels and help to keep you calm.
Any dog owner does not really need any scientific research to tell them this. When you own a dog you do take pleasure in their company and five minutes of sitting stroking them can help you relax. They can also be very entertaining and coming up with ways of enriching their lives is as fun for us as it is for them.
In addition to this, dogs are a reason to get out and get some sunshine and fresh air. They can add so much to your life and will help you to be kind to yourself daily.
Get plenty of exercise
Along with giving your body a boost, getting plenty of exercise is good for your mind and mental health. It is worth making time for it regularly and building it into your everyday habits and routines.
The key to keeping at your exercise regime is in enjoying it. If you enjoy whatever you are doing, it stands to reason that you will want to keep on doing more of it. Pick something that you like to do, whether that is running, cycling, yoga or dancing, just do whatever works for you.
Take time out
Few of us take time out from our busy lives. We can get so caught up with work, family, home and relationships, that we barely stop and look around each day. It is essential that you take time out regularly and do something that you enjoy and helps you to unwind.
For some people, that might be doing some of the things that we have already mentioned, such as walking the dog or going for a run. You might like adult coloring, reading, puzzles or simply binge watching TV. Go for something that makes you feel happy and relaxed.
